  • Tom Ilube CBE, Chair, African Gifted Foundation

    A technology entrepreneur and education philanthropist, Tom founded the African Gifted Foundation to provide educational opportunities to talented African girls with a passion for Maths and Science. He is currently CEO of Crossword Cybersecurity, Chair of the Rugby Football Union, Non-Executive Director of WPP, and Honorary Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford. In 2017, he was voted Britain’s most influential person of Afro-Caribbean descent.

  • Yasameen Al-jboury, Executive Director, African Gifted Foundation

    Yasameen leads the foundation, focusing on outreach, advocacy, and partnerships. With a background in the education and non-profit sector, Yasameen is passionate about girls’ education and women’s empowerment. She holds an MSc in Development Studies from SOAS University of London.

  • George Handscomb, Partnerships Manager, African Gifted Foundation

    George cultivates and sustains relationships with external organisations to garner support for our initiatives. His 5 years of experience in media and advertising have equipped him with valuable skills in sales and account management across diverse industries. Having always had a passion for education and social mobility, George is determined to apply his expertise in an impactful way. He is driven to provide a platform that empowers many young women to reach their full potential.

    Victoria is responsible for building connections with alumnae and contributing to communications at the African Gifted Foundation. She is passionate about empowering African women, advocating for diversity, and advancing equality for girls. Victoria is committed to supporting women in technology, and dedicated to driving positive change in Africa.

African Science Academy Team

  • Gifty Ghansah, Headteacher

    The African Science Academy is headed by Ms Gifty Ghansah, who joined ASA with extensive experience as an educator in the UK and Ghana. She was most recently Vice Principal and Head of Mathematics at a leading Academy in London where she taught for 14 years. Gifty believes in an education that develops students academically, emotionally and mentally to prepare them for the challenges and opportunities they will go on to face.

  • Maxwell Amoah, Lead Teacher of Mathematics and College Counselor

    Maxwell teaches A-level mathematics and further mathematics. His interest is in building a strong mathematics foundation that will empower ASA students to succeed in STEM. He is also passionate about students’ successful transition into college, and so supports them in their university and scholarship applications.

  • Michael Tornyo, Lead Teacher of Physics And College Counselor

    Michael Tornyo holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) He has worked as a Network Operations Engineer for MTN-Ghana NOC, has taught IGCSE, A-Level Physics, IB MYP Physics, IB DP Physics and IB CP Engineering. He was recently selected as an expert to review Ghana’s new science curriculum for Basic 7 to 10. He believes students deserve quality instruction with the opportunity to interact with one another and the instructor.

    Elijah is passionate about working with youth and high school students to empower them mathematically and also has a strong commitment to enhancing and supporting mathematics and science education

    Eric is passionate about female empowerment and encouraging young women to excel in STEM. Committed to fostering an inclusive environment, Eric inspires female students to explore their interests in science and technology, aiming to bridge the gender gap and empower the next generation of female scientists and innovators.

  • Richmond Amanfu, Physics Teacher and Laboratory Assistant

    Richmond is passionate about supporting students in their STEM journeys and creating an engaging, inclusive learning environment where curiosity thrives. As a teaching assistant with expertise in physics, he simplifies complex concepts and inspires students to explore the wonders of science and mathematics. He is committed to fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills, empowering students to reach their full potential. Richmond is excited to contribute to their educational growth and help ignite a passion for learning.

  • Beatrice Yaa Agyeiwaa, Admissions and Recruitment Coordinator

    Beatrice works to coordinate student recruitment across Africa. She works with volunteers, together with the ASA admissions team to ensure that students have a smooth application process and are onboarded successfully into the African Science Academy.

  • Jennifer Mensah, Admin and Communications Manager

    Jennifer leads the Admin & Pastoral Team of the school. Having worked in the Admin Department of ASA, first as the Admissions Officer then as the Admin and Communications Officer, she has vast experience in educational administration and management . She is committed to advocating for equality for girls and driving change in Africa through communication and STEM.

    Victoria Adeku is a passionate professional dedicated to driving organizational success and growth at the African Science Academy (ASA). She collaborates with the ASA admissions team to ensure a seamless application and onboarding process for students and committed to fostering inclusive and supportive environments for all.

    Irene is a dedicated Administration and Communications Officer at the African Science Academy where she is passionate about using communication to foster connections and creating organizational environments that enhance productivity. Irene works closely with the leadership team to help promote the Academy's mission of empowering young women in science, ensuring that key messages are communicated clearly and efficiently across various platforms.

    Monica is a dedicated Hostel Guardian who seeks to leverage her rich background in education and boarding management to support the school's mission of empowering young women. She has a proven record of successfully heading boarding facilities of schools, further sharpening her skills in creating a secure and supportive living environment. At ASA, Monica is committed to ensuring the holistic development of each student, providing a safe and enriching space where young ladies can explore their potential and achieve their fullest capacity.
